AFRA(feminine)

I painted Afra for a personal reason. I have suffered with hair loss lately. It’s a long story and I am still trying to figure out what is going on but it’s become quite a sensitive topic for me. I was sitting at our clubhouse and admiring a group of what we would call “Slay queens” I think. I’m not sure if that’s an appropriate word to use but I hear my daughter use it all the time and last week her friend commented on a picture of me “Always slaying” Hahaha so I guess it feels like that’s the right phrase. I’m not sure. (Laughs out loud and feels ridiculous as I’m alone.) Anyways, back to the beautiful girls. They were all so gorgeous. They all had long eyelashes, super long nails, really sexy outfits and every single one of them had a different hair style. I admired each style and wished it was so easy for me to quickly transform my hair. (Extensions will do more damage) But one stood out to me. The one girl had this huge, magnificent afro. I looked at her and just knew that I wanted to paint her.

After painting her I didn’t know what to name her. I asked for suggestions and some people gave really cool ideas however none felt right. Because in actual fact I was inspired by a women whose name I did not know. Afro then came to mind but it just sounded to wild because this women was anything but wild. She was elegant and beautiful so I looked up the Italian word for Afro and it came up with a feminine tense for the word and I just knew her name needed to be AFRA.
